Local City of Bath College students are hoping their interactive portfolios will get them noticed by potential employers across the area.
The eight Level 3 Print and Publishing Creative Media students at City of Bath College have set their sights on impressing company bosses with their end of year exhibition.
They invited big names with links to publishing to their ‘Publish Us’ exhibition in the Roper building reception.
Students sent out personal invites after walking around Bath offering company bosses cakes in exchange for business cards.
The exhibition is a culmination of two years of hard work including magazine lay-out, logo designs, journalism articles and album covers.
This year students also gained invaluable work experience producing the annual review for the Off The Record children’s charity. They also filmed and streamed a 12 hour readathon to promote the 200th anniversary Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
India Barrett, 18, who is to study event management and marketing at University College Birmingham after a year-out, said they had collected “a big pile of business cards” by giving away free cakes.
She said: “All of our work from eight projects is on show on computers.
“It’s a celebration of what we have achieved, all packaged together in interactive portfolios.
“Our work is to a professional standard so hopefully it will catch the eyes of the right people. It’s a great opportunity to get their attention.”
Georgia Cole, 19, who plans to go to London Metropolitan University to study journalism, said: “It’s a massive celebration of interactive portfolios with big banners showing each student’s work.
“It looks really good to see our work on screens. It’s like looking back at our time at College; all the good memories.”
Lucy Jenness, 19, said she was particularly proud of her photography work in the exhibition, including photos of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
She said: “I’m quite sorry to be coming out of education and going into the real world, but at least we are going out on a high with this exhibition.”
The ‘Publish Us’ exhibition is in the Roper building reception continues until Wednesday, June 12th.
