Extra spaces are now on offer at the Newbridge Park & Ride site in Bath, following recent refurbishment work to expand the site and increase the capacity to meet demand.
248 new parking spaces have been created, with capacity increased to 698.
Councillor Anthony Clarke (Conservative, Lansdown) Cabinet Member for Transport said, “Our new administration is keen to encourage the use of sustainable transport to help keep people moving around Bath.
“The Council’s Park & Ride sites are extremely popular and the provision of extra spaces will help to keep people on the go.
“The increased capacity we have provided at our three Park & Ride sites at Newbridge, Odd Down and Lansdown means we can now accommodate 2,860 vehicles, ensuring quick and convenient access to the city”.
As well as the creation of extra parking spaces, Bath & North East Somerset Council has widened the entrance to the Newbridge Park & Ride site and installed traffic signals to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
New facilities, including a covered waiting area and public toilets have also been provided.
New cycle storage has also been installed following feedback from service users.
Buses run to and from Newbridge Park & Ride every 10 minutes.
First’s General Manager for Bath, Wells & Weston-super-Mare, Andrew Sherrington, said: “We are very happy with the improvements to the Park & Ride site at Newbridge. We look forward to welcoming even more visitors.”
He continued: “We work closely with Bath & North East Somerset Council to provide the award winning Park & Ride services in Bath which, we believe, should be used as an example to other cities across the country.
“Increasing the already substantial Park & Ride offering is a big step in helping reduce congestion across the city.”
Variable Message Signs on the A4 at Saltford and the A39 at Corston are being used to advise motorists to use the expanded site.
The extension of the Park & Ride sites form part of the £27 million Bath Transportation Package.
