Liberal Democrat Wera Hobhouse has thanked residents across Bath for reelecting her as the Member of Parliament for Bath, with a majority of over 12,000 votes.
Wera is the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Climate Change and Environment and has campaigned since being first elected in 2017 for climate action as well as against cuts to schools, which have led to increased class sizes and fewer resources for special needs children.
She said: “I am honoured and humbled that the people of Bath have re-elected me and given me their trust to represent them for the next parliament.
“I will continue to fight for an open, tolerant and outward looking Britain.
“The outcome of the general election means that we will be leaving the European Union at the end of January 2020. For many in this city who have supported the campaign to stop Brexit, this will be hugely disappointing.
Thank you to everyone who cast a vote for me yesterday and all those who put in hours of their own time to volunteer for my campaign?
I am honored to be able to keep representing our wonderful city of Bath in Westminster.#GE2019 #PeoplePower https://t.co/sXUQugMWsG

“I believe that Brexit will make it harder to tackle the big challenges ahead. The Climate Emergency is real but I fear this new government will actively delay climate action.
“I also remain sceptical that the dramatic worsening of public services will actually be halted, let alone reversed.
“The country urgently needs a politically progressive alternative to what the Conservatives are offering and the hard work for all of us on the centre left starts now.”
