Residents across Bath are being urged to check their electoral registration details are correct to ensure they retain their right to vote in any future elections.
The annual canvass, which has to be carried out by law, ensures that Bath & North East Somerset Council can keep the electoral register up to date.
This year, due to COVID-19 and to ensure that guidelines are adhered to, the local authority will be using digital communications to contact residents wherever possible.
More than 50,000 residents can expect an email from the council inviting them to check and, if necessary, update their electoral information. The message will include a link to a dedicated secure portal to input information directly.
A further 40,000 households without a registered email address will be sent a letter in the post at the beginning of August.
The letter will include instructions on what action they need to take, if any.
Will Godfrey, Returning Officer for Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “It’s important that residents know to keep an eye out for messages from the council, so they don’t miss the opportunity to update their details.
“We want to make sure that we have the right information for every household in Bath and North East Somerset so everyone can make sure their voice is heard at any future elections.”
