Lib Dem Councillors in B&NES are bringing the debate over Britain’s membership of the European Union to the Council Chamber.
A motion endorsing Britain’s continued membership of the EU has been registered by Councillor Paul Crossley.
This will be discussed by Councillors at the next meeting of Council, which takes place on Wednesday 23rd March 2016 at 6.30 p.m.
Councillor Paul Crossley (Southdown, Lib Dem), who will propose the motion, commented: “The UK’s continuing membership of the EU is certainly the most important question facing British people this year, and possibly the most important question facing the United Kingdom in a generation.
“I think it is appropriate and important that we take every opportunity for public debate about the referendum.
“By bringing this motion to Council, I hope that residents will have the chance to hear a variety of informative and useful views from local elected representatives, ahead of the vote on 23 June.
“I hope we will also have the chance to listen to local people’s opinions on this issue, as there is still time for residents to register to make statements to Council.”
“When we look at the big challenges facing us today, such as climate change, the refugee crisis, and the economy, I believe it is clear that working with our friends and neighbours is the way forwards rather than isolation and uncertainty.”
