People in Bath are being asked to have their say on a proposal to change the name of the Twerton electoral ward to Twerton & Whiteway, following public feedback gathered in a recent review.

The Guildhall in Bath

Bath & North East Somerset Council is putting the proposal forward in response to views expressed during a review of polling districts and polling places, which was completed last November.

Changing the name of electoral wards is a separate legal process outside the scope of the review.

Potential changes to ward names require a public consultation by law before they can be considered for a decision.

The proposal to change the name of the ward from Twerton to Twerton & Whiteway will not involve any changes to ward boundaries or arrangements as a result.

No other ward name changes in Bath and North East Somerset are being proposed as part of the consultation.

There are currently  4,707 electors in the Twerton ward. The consultation runs until 23rd September.

You can view the boundary map and proposal, and have your say, on the council website here.

Councillor David Wood, deputy leader of the council and the cabinet member for council priorities & delivery, said: “It’s important that we hear from as many people in the community as possible, and particularly those living in Twerton, before any decision is made.”

All feedback received will be considered before a decision on whether to change the name goes before a meeting of the full council.
