Ben Howlett, the MP for Bath, has successfully pitched to the Backbench Business Committee to secure a debate on the proposed closure of 91 courts across England and Wales.
During the debate, he will set out his case for keeping Bath Magistrates’ and County Court and what he thinks the future of HM Courts and Tribunals Service should look like.
After hearing the Backbench Business Committee’s decision to grant the debate in the House of Commons Chamber, Ben Howlett said: “I am really pleased that the committee granted a three hour debate in the House of Commons chamber.
“These planned reforms will completely change how individuals access the justice system, with increased reliance on technology, and it is therefore import we can debate the issues.
“I will be putting forward a strong case as to why Bath court should remain open, but will also discuss wider changes to the system as a whole.”
