Following complaints from the Bath business community about the poor broadband speed in many parts of the city, Bath MP Ben Howlett met with the Minister of State for Digital and Culture to try to find a solution.

The Minister, the Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, said: “Broadband is a hugely important issue. I am delighted that Bath and North East Somerset Council has agreed to a second commercial box to alleviate the capacity issues at the Laura Place box.

“I hope that the timeline to increase capacity in the central parts of Bath can be as fast as possible, and that the very best broadband can be made available as soon as possible.

“I’d like to thank Ben Howlett for all his hard work on this issue.”

Ben added: “At the recent Bath Business Partnership dinner it was clear that the number one issue for small and medium size businesses here in Bath is broadband speed.

“My meeting with the Minister has reinforced that there are steps the Council could take to improve this situation.

“I will be working with the Council in the coming weeks to try to ensure they take whatever steps are necessary to improve broadband speed across the city, but especially for the business community to enable companies to thrive, grow and create new jobs here in Bath.”
