Bath MP Wera Hobhouse calls for more social housing to be built across Bath

Bath MP Wera Hobhouse has called for the Council and its partners to work with her to deliver more homes for social rent in Bath, following a government announcement on funding for new housing.

The call comes following the government announcement that there is a £2 billion pot of money now allocated for new social housing.

Wera Hobhouse said: “In September, I asked the Secretary of State Sajid Javid how we could address the housing need in different constituencies.

“He responded to say that if local authorities felt that the borrowing cap stood in the way of their ambitions then councils should come to talk to government because government wants to ‘do deals with them’.

“We therefore have a great opportunity in Bath to all work together to deliver more desperately needed affordable social rented housing in the city.

“Let’s all work together and make it happen. Let’s get our fair share of the funding.”
