Following the release of the July crime statistics, Bath MP Ben Howlett is pleased to see an overall drop in crime, but is concerned about the rise in violent and sexual offences.
He is concerned about the rise both in absolute numbers (35 in 2014 and 48 in 2015), particularly as this follows on from a similar rise in June (39 in 2014 and 58 in 2015).
As a percentage of crime in Bath violence and sexual offences now account for 14% of all crime in Bath, compared to only 8% in July 2014.
Ben said of the figures: “At a time when overall crime is falling in the city I am concerned at the growing percentage of total crime accounted for by violent and sexual crime.
“At a time when the Police and Crime Commissioner is changing policing in Bath, I hope that she will be do more to keep the residents of Bath safe.”
