Residents across Bath and North East Somerset will be able to claim back any bank charges they may incur after council tax payments were taken a day early.

Bath & North East Somerset Council confirmed in a statement on their website that a processing error meant direct debit payments had been taken today, Tuesday 31st May, instead of Wednesday 1st June.

The local authority says that anyone who has incurred bank charges because of the error will be refunded the amount in full.

Those who pay business rates were also affected by the processing error.

To get back your charges, you can either:

  • Email a copy of your bank statement showing the charge (or a photo with your phone or tablet), together with your council tax account number, name, and address to [email protected].
  • Post a copy of your statement with the charge clearly visible to:
Council Tax, Bath and North East Somerset Council, Lewis House, Manvers Street, Bath BA1 1JG.

The council says it “sincerely apologises for the error and any inconvenience caused as a result”.
