The Leader of B&NES Council, Cllr Tim Warren, has confirmed that the Council will seek to include affordable housing within the Bath Quays North development, labelling it a ‘top priority’.

The inclusion of affordable housing at the site relies on the success of securing additional grant funding for the project.

Councillor Tim Warren said: “The Bath Quays project aims to breathe new life into the Avon Street area of the city, creating thousands of new jobs and providing high-quality office space for local businesses, together with new public spaces and a number of residential units.

“As part of the Enterprise Zone, the priority for this site is to deliver new employment and economic growth for the city.

“However, delivering much-needed affordable homes is also one of our highest priorities, and we are in constant discussions with national and regional agencies about the need for investment in affordable housing in our area.

“We have already applied for grant funding that would enable affordable units to be delivered on the Bath Quays site, and if we are successful in securing this funding then the inclusion of affordable housing within this development will be a top priority.”

The response from Cllr Warren comes after it was revealed in planning documents that affordable homes were not likely at the Bath Quays site, after they were deemed ‘an additional cost burden’.
