Officers from Avon and Somerset Police in Bath carried out an operation on Thursday on a number of roads in the city to tackle rogue traders.
Officers carried out a joint ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) and stop check operation on the Lower Bristol Road and the London Road.
Working with Trading Standards they checked van drivers to see if they were legitimate and that their vehicles were legal.
Two men were arrested on matters unconnected to rogue trading – theft and failing to answer bail – and are being dealt with.
One gang of men laying tarmac in Twerton was questioned and is now being investigated by Trading Standards.
ANPR/stop checks also took place on the A37 near Midsomer Norton and the A39 at Corston.
Officers visited two scrap metal dealerships in Radstock and one in Bath, to talk to customers and to check on waste carrier licences.
All week neighbourhood officers and Special Constables visited residential homes for the elderly and sheltered housing complexes, attending coffee mornings and giving doorstep crime prevention advice.
Extra high-visibility patrols took place in No Cold Calling residential areas, where signs and leaflets warn against uninvited doorstep callers.
There were 38 referrals to the police’s Bobby Van servie, which helps people with home security.
Officers went into banks, Post Offices, libraries and building societies to remind cashiers to double-check when customers known to be vulnerable wish to withdraw unusually large amounts in cash, especially if they are accompanied by a stranger.
Volunteer Police Cadets also gave up their time to help deliver doorstep crime prevention leaflets.
