Avon and Somerset Police have carried out a day of action across Bath and North East Somerset to target a range of offences.
Around 50 officers were involved in the operation yesterday, to tackle burglary, anti-social behaviour, drugs, driving and theft offences.
Warrants were executed in Bath, Keynsham and Radstock while officers also held vehicle stop-checks on the A37 and A4.
In addition, police in Bath city centre ran an operation to clamp down on burglary and theft offences.
In the warrant executed in Bath, which took place in Bradford Park, police seized suspected drugs paraphernalia.
In Keynsham, officers seized a gas powered air pistol following a warrant in the Coronation Avenue area of the town as well as a small amount of cannabis. A cannabis warning was issued in relation to this. Officers also seized a dog that was thought to be a banned breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act and enquiries are continuing into this.
A warrant was also executed in the Writhlington area of Radstock and officers seized a small quantity of suspected Class A drugs, believed to be MDMA, and a small quantity of cannabis. An offensive weapon was also seized and will be destroyed. A 19-year-old woman was cautioned in relation to possession of cannabis. A 28-year-old man is due to be interviewed by police at a later date.
A fourth warrant was executed at an address off Wheelers Road in Midsomer Norton and suspected class B drugs were seized as well as £1,000 in cash.
As a result of the vehicle stop-check operation, a man was arrested and a suspected stolen trailer and power tools were seized and police seized two vehicles for no insurance. Suspected cannabis was also seized and police will be interviewing the driver about this at a later date.
Two people were arrested in Bath city centre on suspicion of shoplifting and bike theft. Two further people were arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply.
During the day, PCSOs were also out and about giving burglary-specific crime reduction advice, especially around not leaving windows open during the hot weather if you are in another part of the house or in the garden.
Chief Inspector Simon Ellis said: “We are very pleased with the success of this operation. We executed several successful warrants and made a number of arrests in relation to suspected theft and other offences.
“These days of action provide us with an opportunity to allocate additional resources to a wide range of issues, from burglary to uninsured drivers.
“We target these offences on a day to day basis but it is good to also be able to support this work with dedicated operations such as this. We remain determined to proactively target, disrupt, arrest and appropriately deal with offenders who are committing crime and causing harm to communities within Bath and North East Somerset.”
