Plans to demolish a 1950s bungalow in Saltford and build five retirement homes and a new private access road have been submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The property on Tyning Road that could be demolished
No. 22 Tyning Road is a large bungalow with garages and a plot that extends more than 90 metres at the rear. A total of eight properties share a boundary with the site.
A pre-application enquiry was made to the council earlier this year and it was considered that “backland” development at this location would not be out of the character with the area.
However, the number of properties was considered too great and the layout would be “cramped” so the current proposal reduces the development from six to five homes.
There would be three two-bed bungalows and two detached four-bed chalet bungalows, all accessed from a new cul-de-sac off Tyning Road.
Six parking spaces are proposed in total, along with 10 cycle spaces.
The application says the site is 200 metres from the nearest bus stop, where buses run to Bath and Bristol along the A4 every 15 minutes, while the nearest shops are 250 metres away.
The application says: “Whilst five new retirement bungalows, some with rooms upstairs for a carer, will not make a large impact on the lack of provision in B&NES, it is these small developments within each locality, in highly sustainable locations, that will more accurately provide for those people who wish to downsize, but only within their own community.”
The planning reference is 25/03496/FUL and the deadline for comments is 6th October.
