Older people in Peasedown are being invited to enjoy a free cream tea organised by the young people who attend the Council’s Peasedown Youth Hub.
As part of the programme of activities on offer at the Youth Hub over the summer holidays, young people will be making cream teas and serving them to pensioners from the village. The free event takes place in Peasedown Youth Hub, on Bath Road, on Wednesday 21st August from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
The pensioners will be some of the first people to benefit from the new crockery and catering equipment purchased through the ward councillors’ initiative funding, as nominated by Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib-Dem, Peasedown).
The young people are also keen to talk with the pensioners about their experiences of growing up in the village – looking at fashion, music, family and how teenagers from different generations spent their free time.
Anyone planning to come along is encouraged to bring photos or keepsakes/memories which could help the young people to create a display for Peasedown Youth Hub.
Councillor Dine Romero (Lib-Dem, Southdown), Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth, said: “This is a perfect example of how different generations can come together and offer each other mutual benefits. Bath & North East Somerset Council is pleased to offer activities and opportunities such as this to help young people make a positive difference to their lives and communities.”
The young people also hope to organise a series of free community events for older and younger residents over the coming months, thanks to a grant from Avon and Somerset Crimebeat Funding.
