Young people interested in careers in the Catering and Hospitality industry are invited to learn their best recipe for success.
An apprenticeship information event is being hosted by City of Bath College on Monday, April 7th at midday.
The free event will include a presentation on apprenticeships, plus lots of helpful information about what they involve and how to apply for vacancies. Young people can also take along their CVs for one-to-one advice.
There will also be hands-on activities to give young people a taste of what it’s like to work in the industry, such as napkin folding and culinary knife skills.
Current apprentices will also be on hand to share their experiences of learning while earning recognised qualifications.
There are currently apprenticeship vacancies available at GPT Smokehouse, The Kilted Chef, The Fleur De Lys and Clayton’s Kitchen at The Porter. They include front of house opportunities, as well as food production and professional cookery.
Amy Patterson, the College’s Apprenticeship Placement Co-ordinator, said the apprenticeship event was open to all young people interested in working in Catering and Hospitality.
She said: “There are lots of employers currently looking for young people in the Catering and Hospitality industry.
“We have some fantastic apprenticeship vacancies available.
“The industry is huge locally as Bath is home to a wide variety of impressive restaurants, pubs and eateries with employers regularly looking to City of Bath College to find their new kitchen and front of house stars.”
Lewis Eyres, 18, is a Level 3 Professional Cookery Apprentice working at Widbrook Grange Hotel in Bradford-on-Avon.
He said: “It’s great to look back and see how far I’ve come in such a short period of time.
“I work in a busy kitchen and get to do a bit of everything, there’s a lot of variety and I have been given a lot of responsibility.
“I’ve got so much out of my apprenticeship and would definitely recommend them to others. You get your qualification and you get the experience at the same time.”
Young people are invited to attend ‘Apprenticeships – A Recipe for Success’ at The Shrubbery restaurant at City of Bath College at midday on Monday, April 7th. The event will last approximately two hours.
If interested, register online in advance by going to www.citybathcoll.ac.uk and clicking on Apprenticeships.
