Travel and Tourism students have experienced first-hand the demands of working with children by helping out at a busy children’s nursery.
The second year students had to plan and deliver a host of activities to keep the energetic youngsters entertained.
The pre-school class at Zebedees Nursery in Avon Street enjoyed meeting the students and spent time together making masks, singing, dancing and storytelling.
The two nursery visits were organised as part of the Travel and Tourism BTEC Level 3 course. The students have to carry out practical work experience with children as they could go on to work as children’s representatives in the UK or abroad.
Lottie Moss, 18, and Mollie Gardner, 18, were two of the students who enjoyed being at the nursery with up to 20 three to five-year-olds.
The students agreed it was a fun but challenging experience which would help to give them a head start in their future careers.
Kate Hobbs, class tutor, said it gave the students the kind of experience they wouldn’t have got in the classroom.
She said: “It’s a great opportunity for students as some of them have never had the chance to work with children before.
“It’s a chance for them to develop their communications skills and gain confidence while getting a realistic insight into the role of a children’s rep.
“Some of the students were a little apprehensive as keeping so many children entertained is quite a daunting task, but they did incredibly well.”
Travel and Tourism students have been visiting Zebedees for three years and the College remains grateful for the nursery’s support.
