A top floor flat in the new Riverside development went up in flames yesterday evening, with emergency services rushing to the scene to contain the fire.
The top floor flat of the new Palladian building was seen with smoke pouring from it, with the fire thought to have been started deliberately.
Avon Fire and Rescue sent four of their fire engines, including the aerial platform, from the Bath fire station to the scene, using high pressure hose reels to extinguish the flames.
Residents in the flats below were alerted by police that they may have to be evacuated but the fire brigade managed to control the fire before any evacuation plans were started.
The penthouse apartments on the top of the building were believed to be unaffected.
Ambulance crews were on standby to offer treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene.
The new development was opened in 2012 and properties range from £189,000 to £650,000 to buy. A number of the properties are designated as affordable housing and are owned by social landlord Curo.
