A community project launched in Bath last year to recruit and train volunteers from the faith community to work with families is looking for more people in the Somer Valley to get involved.
Family Matters was launched in Bath in November 2014 to recruit and train volunteers largely from the faith community to work in partnership with B&NES Council’s Connecting Families Service.
Family Matters works to support families with multiple and complex needs to see significant positive change in their lives.
There are now 12 volunteers working with families in Bath and the project needs to be extended to the Somer Valley area of B&NES.
Volunteers will be fully trained for their role and then allocated to a family.
After a handover period working with the family’s key worker they will then visit each week for two hours to encourage the family to continue with their plan for change.
Support meetings and ongoing training are provided for the volunteers.
Project Leader Joy Fraser said: “Although it is early days for the project there are already encouraging outcomes for some of the families our volunteers are working with and the work is positive and rewarding.
“B&NES Council is now keen for the project to expand outside of Bath and so we are looking for volunteers in the Somer Valley area.”
For anyone interested in finding out more about Family Matters, there will be an information evening at which B&NES Connecting Families Service and Family Matters will give a presentation and provide an opportunity for further questions.
The meeting will be on Thursday 30th April at 7pm at the Salvation Army, Radstock Road, Midsomer Norton BA3 2AJ.
