A new online resource for family historians has just been launched by Bath and North East Somerset Council’s popular archive service.

The service’s popular ‘Bath Ancestors’ database, which contains over 76,000 names, has been extended to include 1,869 names of First World War soldiers taken from war memorials in Bath and surrounding villages.
These include Bathampton, Batheaston, Combe Down, Larkhall, Twerton and others.
Researched and compiled by Bath historian and author, Andrew Swift, the database contains many other details of the World War I victims including their age and date of death, rank and regiment, and even their home address and cemetery in some cases.
Cllr Ben Stevens (Lib-Dem, Widcombe), Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: “This new resource contains a wealth of information for family historians interested in the First World War.
“I’d like to than Andrew for sharing his research with us, and also Simon Caldwell, an IT expert from Bath who volunteered to put all this information online for us.”
