A new floating café called The Boat Cafe has opened on the canal at Meadows Bridge between Bradford on Avon and Avoncliff near Bath.

Based in a specially converted canal narrow boat which is 70 feet long but only 7 feet wide it provides seating for up to 20 people inside and 8 more outside on the bank.

The owner, Alfie Windsor, said “People are really intrigued to sit inside an old narrow boat – especially as you normally only get glimpses into boats from the towing path.

“We’ve had a very busy opening week and customers seem to like what’s on offer as we’ve lots of favourable comments”.

Their focus is on freshly made, simple snacks including a selection of homemade cakes made just for them. Everything on offer is either Fairtrade or locally sourced.

The boat is permanently moored and is open seven days a week from 9 till 5 – later in the summer.

Given its position with lots of passing walkers, cyclists and boaters The Boat Café also offers take-aways and complete picnics.

The Boat Cafe is part of the Canal Carrying Company Ltd based in Bradford on Avon who already operate the popular “Coal Boat” that delivers solid fuel, gas, diesel and wood to boats on the K&A Canal between Bath and Semington.
