A new cycle storage facility at Wellsway School in Keynsham has been officially opened by the Council to encourage more children to cycle to school.
The two new bike shelters, one for students and one for staff and sixth formers, were funded by Local Sustainable Transport Fund as part of the Active Travel to Schools project run in partnership by Travel West and charity Sustrans.
Councillor Caroline Roberts (Lib-Dem, Newbridge), Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “The Council is doing as much as possible to support people of all ages to cycle instead of using cars to get to their destination. Facilities, like bike sheds, encourage people to cycle.
“In the case of Wellsway School, pupils can now lock their bikes up with confidence and keep active on their way to and from school.”
Students also contributed to the costs of the new storage facilities by taking part in a sponsored bike ride along the Bristol Bath Railway Path last summer to fundraise for the shelters.
