A growing church in Peasedown St John has appointed a new community pastor to support church members outside of their regular Sunday services.

Members of St John’s Church are encouraged to join community groups run by members of the church so they have an opportunity to pray, study the Bible and enjoy fellowship in a relaxed setting.

Church Leader Revd Matthew Street said: “The Christian life is a continual journey with new challenges every day. Those of us who follow God’s call want to do more than worship Him on a Sunday, but seek His guidance in everything we do.

“Because of this, we encourage members at St John’s to join a weekly community group that can include Bible study, discussion and prayer.”

“Several church community groups now run regularly, and due to numbers in church growth over the last 18 months, Peasedown St John resident Sally Taylor has been appointed to keep a pastoral eye over each group’s development.

Sally added: “We seek in our Community Groups to be like the early Christians in the Bible – meeting together and sharing everything in common. These groups seek to be a place where people can be real, share their lives and stories and track along with one another in their Christian walk.

“With this support and encouragement we are better equipped as people and as a church to look outside the walls of the church and make a difference in the lives of those around us in our community and village.

“We are blessed as a church to run several holiday clubs, have a Community football coach and be involved in the Somer Valley Foodbank as well as having good links to Peasedown youth and children’s centre. I know that our church community groups help enable these things to happen and I know this involvement will grow.”

Sally has been tasked with ‘thinking outside of the box’, and helping to create even stronger links between church members and the wider Peasedown St John community.
