A new No Cold Calling zone has been set up in Wedmore Park in Southdown in Bath to protect elderly residents from unwanted and unexpected callers.

The area’s local policing team, with partners from Bath and North east Somerset Council, Curo Housing and Trading Standards, have erected signs to warn uninvited callers  away.

A number of locations across Bath have already had No Cold Calling zones, and have so far proved successful.

The twelve zones across Bath and North East Somerset were introduced to tackle a number of complaints being seen by Trading Standards and the police regarding cold calling on doorsteps.

Beat Manager PC Mark Hodder and PCSO Paul Spreadbury, along with the other agency representatives, invited Wedmore Park residents to a coffee morning  at Blagdon Park community centre to explain how the scheme works and to offer further crime prevention advice.

Curo team leader Carol Davidson said: “This new cold calling zone is great news for residents of Wedmore Park who have asked for this scheme to be put in place.

“We’re very pleased to have been able to help make this possible with the police and local authority.”
