Local residents are being warned by the Met Office to expect more stormy weather today and over the weekend.
A yellow weather warning has been issued by the weather forecaster, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to cause more localised flooding and potential damage.
The Met Office are warning that the “public should be aware of an increased risk of both surface water and river flooding as well as disruption to transport.”
This weather follows on from the past fortnight of bad weather experienced across the country throughout the festive period.
The local area has been issued with a yellow weather warning for rain and wind on Sunday, with surface water being the main issue.
The Met Office’s chief forecaster said: “Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will affect the UK on Sunday. Quite widespread accumulations of 10-20 mm are then likely with locally in excess of 40 mm possible over some higher ground.”
Environment Secretary Owen Paterson chaired an emergency meeting yesterday in response to the increased flood threat.
He told Sky News: “We had a range of ministers from right across government attending, who will be working very closely with local councils, power companies, utilities and transport companies, making sure that all those organisations are absolutely prepared for the bad weather that is coming.”
“I would appeal to everyone to keep in very close touch with the warnings that are being put out on a regular basis by the Environment Agency, to pay heed to them, as these floods and the coast will be dangerous.”
