The Highways Agency are set to begin major roadworks on the Batheaston Roundabout after the mass traffic light failure earlier this month.

The roadworks will be taking place on the roundabout which joins the London Road and the A46 Batheaston bypass.
The traffic lights suffered a mass failure back on the 15th August, leaving all of the traffic signals un-operational and leaving traffic to flow freely through the area.
Engineers were immediately sent to investigate the problem, and were able to fix most of the lights on the same day. A large cable failure has meant that the lights from the Bathampton junction and the junction to Bath are still not working.
The essential works to replace the cables will be carried out at a time that minimises the amount of delay through the roundabout. A date for the work commencing has not yet been set.
A spokesperson for the Highways Agency said: “These cables need completely replacing by specialist contractors and this will involve works across the roundabout to lay new cables.
“As this work will have a significant impact on the operation of the roundabout it needs to be carefully planned to cause the least possible disruption to road users and we will be liaising closely with the contractors on the duration or works and the most appropriate timing.”
“We are not aware of any significant issues since the lights have been out of operation but we will continue to monitor the situation until the works can be undertaken.”
