Bath & North East Somerset Council is looking for local people to serve on an independent panel which advises the Council on the number and level of councillors’ allowances and expenses.
The Council is required by law – under the Local Authorities (Members Allowances) (England) Regulations Act 2003 – to establish such a panel and must have regard to its recommendations in setting allowances.
The panel will also make recommendations on allowances in respect of parish and town councils in the area.
Applications are invited from members of the Bath and North East Somerset community to serve on this panel, for an initial period of 4 years.
Applicants must not be connected in any way to serving councillors nor have any direct links with the Council, (other than as Council Tax payers). This is to preserve the independence of the panel.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate an ability to look objectively at evidence and make balanced judgements based on the evidence considered.
This is a voluntary role but all panel members will be able to claim travelling and subsistence expenses.
If you feel this role is of interest to you, then apply for further details by e-mail to [email protected].
For an informal discussion about this role, contact Graham Russell, Independent Adviser, on 07816144396.
The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is 31st July, 2015.
Interviews will be held on the afternoon of 11th August 2015.
