A popular local pub near Bath is to host an afternoon of tea, cake and prizes all in aid of funds for cancer research and support.

Richard Clifford, and his wife Jayne, own and run the Faulkland Inn in Faulkland, and have decided to support both a national and local cause during the same day.

Richard said: “We are pleased to be hosting an afternoon tea in aid of charity on Saturday March 29th. We’ll have delicious homemade cakes on offer, along with tea and coffee.

“All proceeds will go towards Cancer Research UK, which we hope will help individuals and families who are affected by this devastating illness.”

Cancer Research UK is currently fighting over 200 cancers, and in the UK they are the single largest funder of cancer research. With over 100 years of experience, they are doing all they can to prevent and treat cancer.

The afternoon will also include a raffle with a top prize of an airplane ride around Somerset for two, plus many more kind donations.

Richard added: “In the evening we are holding an Auction of Donations in aid of the Peasedown St John-campaign to raise funds for 30-year old cancer sufferer Becci McCafferty.”

The community activist and mother of six was told the devastating news before Christmas that she has incurable bowel cancer.

As a result however, she has received overwhelming levels of support from villagers since the news became public.

Friend and local councillor Karen Walker has been leading local fundraising events for Becci and her family, such as pub quiz nights and a sponsored 20-mile walk to Cheddar on May 3rd. Karen has also set up a special fund, Fund for Peasedown, to support the McCafferty’s and other cancer sufferers in the village.

She said: “The support for Becci has been coming in from across the country. So many people are touched by her story, and want to do what they can. We are grateful to Richard and his wife Jayne for hosting a prize raffle and Auction in aid of Becci.

“All monies raised will go towards paying for a dream holiday to Florida, and also other support Becci may need during her treatment.”

Raffle prizes include:

  • An airplane ride for two around Somerset;
  • Barrel of Lilleys cider from Lilley’s Cider Barn;
  • Hospitality tickets to watch Bath Rugby;
  • Two tickets to Wembley to watch England’s last friendly match before the World cup England v Peru on 30th May;

The afternoon starts at 2pm on Saturday 29th March at The Faulkland Inn, Faulkland. The Auction starts at 9pm. For details phone 01373 834340 or visit www.thefaulklandinn.co.uk.
