Budget chain Lidl have announced that they are to re-submit new plans to bring their supermarket to Bath on the former Herman Miller site.
The factory site on the Lower Bristol Road in Bath has been owned by Lidl UK and developer Acornford Hampshire for a number of years, but an agreement was never reached between the two over the development plans.
Both companies have still failed to reach a shared plan for the area, so will be developing each side of the disused site independently.
Acornford’s Ian Cawkwell has said that two unnamed stores will be occupying his side of the development, and that Bath and North East Somerset are soon to sign off planning permission for the site.
Lidl first announced plans to build a store in Bath back in 2009, and say they have always planned on having a store here.
Councillors Sharon Ball and Liberal Democrat campaigner Sarah Moore have said they are delighted that Lidl are to be submitting a planning application after working closely with them over the past two years.
Councillor Ball said: “Residents have been telling us for a long time that they want the former Herman Miller building used as a Lidl store and I will be supporting the planning application, this has gone on far too long and the area needs this site developed”.
The Herman Miller factory closed in 2005 as part of a downsizing move by the company.
