Local residents and businesses have been urged to register their comments on the Council’s Placemaking Plan before consultation comes to an end this Friday.
Planning Consultant Marcus Plaw, from Colliers International, said the consultation had been released to stimulate discussion on potential development sites across B&NES. These would be contained in the council’s Core Strategy and future development control policies – which will help shape development in the area until the next decade.
He said: “The success of the council’s Core Strategy in guiding sustainable development and stimulating economic growth will depend greatly on how its strategic objectives are upheld.
“These objectives will be reflected in the sites identified for development and the policy context within which they and other schemes come forward in the coming years.
“Developers, landowners, and the public should embrace this consultation exercise as it is relevant to urban are rural areas and make their comments known to the council while they can.”
Key questions posed by the Launch Placeaking Document, were:
- How should sites relate to the surrounding environment and communities?
- How should new streets and spaces be connected to existing ones?
- What mixture of homes and jobs should be provided on which sites?
- What important views should be protected?
- How should the Council manage the changing nature of retailing?
- How do they ensure more low carbon development?
- How do they safeguard their high quality environments, and ensure high quality design?
The main purpose of the Launch Document was to spark debate and discussion about these detailed planning issues. The feedback from the consultation will be used to inform further preparation of the Placemaking Plan. A series of events will take place Autumn onwards as part of this stage.
