More than 15 awards were presented by acclaimed actor Nigel Havers on Friday 6th May.
Winners were selected from across the hospital, working in a wide variety of roles from frontline care to research, education and administration.
The team that set up and ran the hospital’s COVID-19 vaccination hub last year were named Team of the Year, for swiftly establishing a seven-day-a-week service.
The brand new team vaccinated more than 10,000 people, and their work was even selected as a national case study for others to learn from.
Julie Stone, Occupational Health Nurse Manager, said: “We were really proud to play our part in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“From the moment we got the go ahead to set up the on-site vaccination centre for staff we pulled out all the stops, and it was actually quite emotional to welcome the first people for their COVID-19 jab.
“Our team was made up of colleagues from across the hospital, who stepped away from their usual day jobs to make this happen. Receiving this award is fantastic recognition of how everyone worked together to make a difference.”
The ‘Most Innovative Team of the Year’ Award went to the Pre-Operative Assessment team for launching the digital My Pre Op service, which reduces the number of patients having to come into hospital for assessments before surgery by up to 50%.
It’s better for patients as it maintains the high quality of clinical assessments but avoids the need for travel, and also saves nursing time.
Other winners included Research Physiotherapist Charlotte Vye, awarded the Research and Development Award for being an ambassador for trials, Clinical Scientist Freya Henry, named Outstanding Student of the Year for applying her passion for the highest quality of patient care while studying for her Masters in Clinical Science, and a record eight Personal Achievement Awards were presented to staff who have excelled in their roles.
Alison Ryan, Chair, said: “People are at the heart of the RUH, and our Annual Awards Ceremony really was an inspiring evening celebrating those who have gone above and beyond the usual.
“We want to be an organisation that supports our staff to flourish, and every day we see so many examples of exceptional patient care, innovation and improvement, and fantastic teamwork. It was an honour to recognise this hard work and dedication.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d like to say a big well done to all our winners, and those who were nominated too.”
