Nurses and midwives have been celebrated at the Royal United Hospital in Bath to mark two international days which honour both the midwifery and nursing professions.
As part of the day of celebrations, the Trust’s nurses and midwives were asked to tell the hospital why they are proud of their profession by posting comments on a special ‘Proud to be a Nurse’ wall at the hospital.
Patients on the children’s ward at the RUH were invited to join in the fun by drawing and colouring their own nurse pictures.
Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Helen Blanchard said: “I am proud to be part of the nursing and midwifery team at the RUH and still practice on the wards.
“Every day, nurses and midwives make a real difference to people’s lives both in our hospital and in the wider community.
“Their professionalism, enthusiasm and commitment to patient care are qualities of which we are extremely proud.”
As part of the day’s events, the RUH is encouraging patients – past and present – to nominate a nurse or midwife at the Trust whom they believe deserves a special mention.
Helen said: “We are asking people to nominate a nurse or midwife – someone who has made your time here at the RUH that bit brighter.
“You do not need to know the name of the nurse in order to nominate – you can simply mention the ward or department in which you received your care; after all, nursing is a real team effort.
“We think our nurses and midwives do an amazing job, and we know – from the countless letters we receive each year praising our nurses and midwives for their care – that you do too.”
If you have had brilliant care from an incredible nurse or midwife, get in touch and let them know.
