A refreshed Health and Wellbeing Strategy for Bath and North East Somerset will be presented at the Health and Wellbeing Board on Wednesday 25th March.
The strategy is jointly owned by Bath & North East Somerset Council, NHS BaNES Clinical Commissioning Group, Healthwatch B&NES and NHS England and sets out our local aspirations for improving the health and wellbeing of local people and reducing inequalities.
This includes promoting healthy lifestyles to prevent ill health and designing care services which meet the needs of local communities.
As part of the meeting, the Board will also be hearing more about some of the work underway locally to deliver the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
This includes work being undertaken to enhance the quality of life for people with dementia in Bath and North East Somerset.
Awareness raising initiatives such as the Dementia Friends Sessions with staff at Sainsbury’s in Odd Down, Bath are seeking to raise awareness and understanding about the condition and help staff to support customers with dementia – making independent living for people with dementia easier.
Trends in child obesity are also a particular priority for the Health and Wellbeing Board.
Around 1 in 4 reception aged children (4/5 years old) in Bath and North East Somerset are an unhealthy weight and rates have been rising rapidly across England over the past 20 years.
The Board will be hearing about local plans to inform and empower people to make healthy choices and initiatives which enable opportunities for active play and improving understanding about nutrition and food.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the Health and Wellbeing Board meeting, which will take place from 10am-12noon in the Brunswick Room at The Guildhall, Bath.
People can also watch the meeting online through a live webcast as well as get involved and pose related questions directly to the Health and Wellbeing Board ahead of the meeting via the Council’s Twitter feed @bathnes using the hashtag #HWB.
