The Prime Minister David Cameron has written to Ben Howlett, the MP for Bath, about his support for the RUH’s Forever Friends Appeal, and has praised its impressive record in raising funds for the hospital.
Ben, who was made Vice-President of the Forever Friends Appeal last year, wrote to the Prime Minister asking for his support for the Appeal’s fundraising campaign for a new world-class Cancer Centre at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
The £23.5 million Cancer Centre, is inspired by the design and results of the Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care, and the UCLH Cancer Centre which focus on an individualised and holistic approach to the treatment of cancer patients.
It is hoped that it will be the best cancer centre for a district general hospital in the UK.
The Prime Minister wrote: “The Forever Friends Appeal has a very impressive record in raising funds for the Royal United Hospital and I know that it is held in highest regard by the local community.
“I wish all those involved with the Appeal every success with your endeavours to raise the additional funds needed to build a world-class Cancer Centre at the RUH.
“It is heartening to hear that the Appeal has already raised £7.1 million, this is a tremendous achievement.
“I very much hope that any organisation or individual that is able to support this much needed investment will do so in any way they can.”
Ben said of the Prime Minister’s support: “As Vice-President of Forever Friends, I am delighted that the Prime Minister has responded in such a positive way.
“This just goes to show what a great reputation the Appeal has and the importance of delivering a new Cancer Centre for the RUH.
“The campaign is already close to its £8.5m target and is now really building momentum following the Prime Minister’s support.
“I do hope Bath residents are able to pledge their support to the campaign.”
