Plans to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in the Foxhill area of Bath will be discussed at a meeting today (Wednesday 22nd March).
Bath & North East Somerset Council will be giving an update on the ambitions for the Foxhill Housing Zone at a meeting of the Health and Wellbeing Board in the Guildhall in Bath between 10-12 pm.
This is the biggest housing focused regeneration programme in the area and provides an opportunity to create a sustainable and vibrant community in the south of Bath
The programme is being led by the housing provider and developer, Curo.
They are working in partnership with the Council to ensure the development enables improvements to both the physical and social environment of the Foxhill area.
Cllr Vic Pritchard, (Conservative, Chew Valley South), Co-Chair of the Health and Wellbeing and Council Cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “People’s physical and mental health is affected by the quality of housing, access to green space, air quality and the environments in which they live.
“As a Health and Wellbeing Board, we will be discussing the ambitions for the regeneration of Foxhill and how the programme will support and enable people to lead healthy lives.”
Also at the meeting, the Health and Wellbeing Board will discuss the work being undertaken locally to prevent loss of life through suicide by children, young people and adults living in Bath and North East Somerset.
Dr Ian Orpen, Co-Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board and Clinical Chair of the CCG, said, “Suicide is a devastating event with widespread consequences not only in the immediate term, but also for those affected with impacts on long term psychological trauma, ill health and reduced quality of life.
“Improving mental health and wellbeing is a key priority for us as a Board and we have invited the Suicide Prevention Partnership to update us on the key activities planned over the next three years to reduce the risk of death from suicide and undetermined injury.”
The Health and Wellbeing Board will also discuss proposals for a revised Better Care Fund plan for Bath and North East Somerset.
The Better Care Fund is a national policy introduced as a way to support local government and NHS to work more closely together, ensuring local people receive joined up health and care services that best meet their needs.
Bath and North East Somerset’s Better Care Fund Plan 2014/15-2018/19 was highlighted nationally as an example of good practice.
The Board will look at the role of the 2016/17 plan in delivering its priorities for health and care across the area.
This includes new expectations in 2016-17 to reduce delayed transfers of care from a hospital environment and to invest further in out of hospital services.
