A full time office to register both births and deaths is now being run at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, after the previous two day per week service was increased after becoming popular with locals.
A registrar had previously been available for two days per week but the location has been so popular that the hospital and Bath & North East Somerset Council’s registration team have increased the service to five days per week.
It is estimated that the new Monday to Friday service will mean that up to 40 registrations per week can be booked, compared to the previous 12.
Councillor Martin Veal (Conservative, Bathavon North), Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “This increased service is an excellent example of the Council’s continued commitment to provide joined-up services with key public sector partners.
“This helps us to make sure we are delivering efficient and convenient services for residents at important times of their lives.
“The service is also proving to be extremely beneficial to new parents, who now have the choice of another convenient location, to register their new arrivals birth.”
Helen Blanchard, Director of Nursing and Midwifery at the Royal United Hospital said: “We are very pleased to have a full-time Registrar based at the RUH.
“We hope that being able to register the death of a loved one here at the hospital will continue to help the whole process run smoothly at such a difficult time for relatives.
“Integrating services and working even more closely with our partners in the community is a real priority for the RUH.”
All appointments to register a birth or death need to be booked in advance and certificates can only be purchased by debit or credit card.
