The Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel has become one of the first hotels in the UK to offer Jennifer Young spa treatments for people who are living with and beyond cancer.
Macdonald Hotels & Resorts has teamed up with specialist skincare company, Jennifer Young – Beauty Despite Cancer, to offer spa treatments and specialist products for people living with and beyond cancer, as well as to provide training for their in-house beauty therapists and front of house staff in all 20 spa locations.
Emma Leadbeater, Macdonald Spa Director, said: “We are very proud to be the first hotel group in the UK to be able to offer Jennifer Young spa treatments for those affected by cancer.
“The decision to launch this range of products and treatments was driven by the demand from those living with cancer who are frequently unable to pamper themselves with conventional spa and beauty treatments due to sensitive skin and nails, a common consequence of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.”
Those living with and beyond cancer often have their lives turned upside down, with a number of day-to-day experiences no longer being an option due to the physical or mental effects of their chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
For this reason, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts’ front of house staff and spa therapists have undergone specialist training in Jennifer Young’s accredited training school where they learned treatment techniques, as well as the appropriate language to use and sensitive consultation advice, to ensure the spa experience is normalised for guests looking to boost their sense of wellbeing with a spot of pampering.
Jennifer Young used her scientific background, as well as extensive research with cancer specialists and patients to develop a variety of products designed to mitigate and ease the harsh effects that both chemotherapy and radiotherapy can have on the body, skin, nails and lips.
A number of treatments and product ranges will be available at Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel.
The ‘Defiant Beauty’ range is specially formulated for those living with cancer and addresses the side effects cancer treatments can have on skin, body and nails.
The ‘Beyond Beauty’ range is formulated for use after cancer treatment and is designed for those who have been through chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
All products contain a blend of ingredients and essential oils that are gentle on sensitive skin as well as having anti-ageing benefits.
Jennifer said: “It’s so often the case that those living with and beyond cancer are denied the chance to feel good and relax, but by working with Macdonald Hotels & Resorts we are offering more people the chance to get a sense of normality amidst what can be a challenging time.
“Cancer and its side effects come in many different forms and the beauty of these products is that they are adapted by the accredited, highly trained staff to suit each guest’s need, leaving them feeling good and a bit more like their usual self.”
As part of the collaboration with Jennifer Young and Satya Life, the exclusive distributors of the specialist range, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts will be supporting Ellie’s Friend, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of adults affected by cancer across the UK.
To mark the launch of the specialist range, Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel will be collaborating with Ellie’s Friend to give away five free spa days to those living with or beyond cancer.
Emma Leadbeater added: “We know how beneficial a massage or facial can be and we didn’t want anyone who is affected by cancer to be denied that feeling of deep relaxation and self-care that a visit to a spa can provide.”
