B&NES Councillors are being asked to consider local initiatives and policies aimed at improving children’s health at a special session called by committee Chair Councillor Lisa Brett.
The special joint scrutiny session of the Children and Young People Panel and the Health and Wellbeing Select Committee will look at action to tackle childhood health problems including: childhood obesity, mental health, and asthma.
Issues around the transition between children and adult services will also be considered.
Councillor Lisa Brett (Walcot, Lib Dem) is Chair of the Children and Young People PDS Panel.
She commented: “Recent findings have shown that 27 per cent of children are overweight or obese by the time they leave primary school.
“This and other worrying statistics show that more needs to be done to improve children’s health and set them on the right track for a healthy life.”
