The Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG) is expanding its fundraising operations to buy more essential medical equipment for local cancer patients.
The BCUSG has launched new fundraising groups covering Bath, Frome, Shepton Mallet, Midsomer Norton and Radstock and is looking for volunteers from these areas to help support its vital work.
The charity, which provides a range of equipment for cancer patients at Bath’s Royal United Hospital (RUH), has also secured 10 places for the 2020 Bath Half Marathon and is looking for runners to take part and raise money for the BCUSG.
The charity needs to find £369,822 in total for three projects that include an out-of-hours helpline, equipment to target radiotherapy more accurately and funds to upgrade a solid-state gamma camera, which will provide better images for cancer diagnosis.
BCUSG chairman Mike Taylor said: “We would like to say well done to all our existing supporters who have worked so hard to raise funds for the cancer unit.
“We have made considerable progress towards achieving our current fundraising target but more needs to be done.
“That’s why we are launching new groups in Somerset and Bath and looking for volunteers to come forward to help us.
“We would also like to hear from any Bath Half Marathon runners who would be prepared raise money for our charity and help us transform cancer treatment at the RUH.”
