£3 million of refurbishment and upgrade work to operating theatres, treatment rooms and en-suite bedrooms has got underway at the BMI Bath Clinic in Combe Down.
The private hospital, located in a former Victorian residence, has built a reputation for providing rapid access to diagnosis and treatment for routine and complex conditions.
Executive Director Tim Atter explained: “£250 million is being invested in our network of hospitals and it’s pleasing that Bath Clinic forms a part of that.
“Being part of BMI Healthcare, the largest provider of independent healthcare in Britain, is really helping to drive our high-tech refurbishment and service expansion programme.
“Our clinicians are working with us to provide the services patients need in the comfort of a ‘home from home’ yet ‘high-tech-friendly’ environment.
“Formerly a private home, the hospital is a beautiful uplifting building in a sumptuous landscaped setting, adjoining a National Trust property, making it a lovely place to stay.
“Not only that, but in recent external assessments by the CQC, we were rated as Good in every category.”

Now celebrating its 35th anniversary as a hospital, a key refurbishment programme is taking place including operating theatre and bedroom improvements, as well as major plant replacement.
The upgrade, which includes air handling and ventilation, surgical control and power systems, plus purpose-designed lighting, means that consultants can work with the latest technology.
For patients, the investment will increase comfort and hygiene, while ensuring staff continue to provide the highest levels of care.
The facilities at the Combe Down hospital incorporate 17 consulting rooms, three operating theatres and 68 en-suite bedrooms, as well as full scale endoscopy, treatment, physiotherapy and imaging suites.
It has recently developed new multi-disciplinary service teams with dedicated centres of excellence in areas such as the Spine, Knees, Joint Replacement and Foot & Ankle treatment.
The expansion complements the range of medical and surgical health specialities already well established at BMI Bath Clinic.
