A charity race day organised by Chippenham-based contractor MJ Church has raised £36,000 for The Forever Friends Appeal’s Cancer Care Campaign at the RUH in Bath.

In its third year, the event saw 176 attendees from 15 companies enjoy a day at Bath Racecourse with the aim to dig deep and raise money for the charity which is close to their hearts.

Carol Heneghan, Business Development and Marketing Manager at MJ Church, said: “We all worked hard to make the day entertaining and I’d like to thank the Appeal team along with our guest presenters Matt Powell and David Flatman for their lively entertainment and encouragement of bidders during the ‘Money Can’t Buy Experiences’ charity auction, where eight items raised over £15,000 bringing the total to £36,00 for the day.

“Thank you to everyone who attended and for their generosity. The charity race day is our most successful fundraiser and the response from people this year has been tremendous with our largest ever amount raised at a single event.

“We already have bookings for next year’s race day as it was such a success.”

Last year, the appeal welcomed MJ Church as one of the charity’s Principle Corporate Partners and they will receive a specialist area named after them in the new Cancer Centre.

Back in February this year, the appeal announced it had reached the minimum fundraising target of £8.5 million. But, stressed it will continue the Cancer Care Campaign as many of our donors and supporters want to keep going to ensure the new Cancer Centre would be truly special in its design, facilities and equipment.

Tim Hobbs, Head of Fundraising, The Forever Friends Appeal said: “M J Church has supported the Appeal for many years and the race day is an example of their successful corporate events.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paula, Mike and the team at M J Church, not only for this incredible recent donation, but for their kind and continued support of the Appeal.

“With the amount raised at the race day, M J Church has now raised over £100,000 towards the new Cancer Centre, which is absolutely amazing. We really are truly grateful”.

Businesses interested in supporting the Appeal and fundraising for the RUH are invited to take part in the Big7Tea event on 5th July in time to celebrate 70 years of the NHS.
