Letter: Green Belt & Toilets – Dave Laming

It is getting a little tedious reading rants from Councillor Colin Barrett sounding off about how single handedly he is going to fight tooth and nail to prevent houses being built on the beautiful green hills of Weston or halting the closure of the Weston village toilets.

On the first issue let me remind him that we Independents voted the same way as him in March. It was his 15 or so North East Somerset Tory colleagues who let him down so selfishly. Mustn’t let people have new houses in our bit of green and pleasant N E Somerset land they all shouted!

As for the toilet issue Mr Barrett, let me remind you that it was Councillor Malcolm Lees (Independent Weston) who negotiated with the administration and forced through the amendment to keep your toilets open until a satisfactory alternative is found. Furthermore it is Councillors Lees, Chalker and myself who are continually pestering the Cabinet members responsible, seeking alternative methods of funding, or pursuing possible corporate bodies for sponsorship.

So far, to my knowledge you have yet to have a single discussion with those in control, or attempt to seek alternative proposals. It’s easy to jump up and down and shout, it’s much harder to research, seek and negotiate!

Dave Laming

B&NES Independent Councillor for Lambridge

Bath & N E Somerset Council’s River Champion, Lambridge.
