The Genesis Trust, which helps homeless people across Bath, has launched its Annual Appeal with the aim of raising £35,000 by the end of the month.
The charity is appealing to the public to help it continue the essential work it does to support the homeless, rough sleepers and vulnerable with its 9 projects across the city.
Despite the number of rough sleepers in Bath having gone down to 27 in November 2014 from 33 in 2013, the Genesis Trust has experienced a significant increase in demand for their services throughout 2014.
The charity has noticed this particularly at its vital daily drop-in centre based in the vaults of the Bath Abbey.
Here the charity has been helping over fifty people a day, providing them with hot drinks, emergency clothing and bedding and much needed emotional support and practical advice.
Benefit cuts and mental health are big issues for their clients. Genesis Trust’s Life Skills project, which runs courses aimed at enhancing well being, provides help with budgeting and cookery skills as well as helping people develop emotionally via creative writing, art and gardening.
