Two people have been rescued from a blaze at their home by firefighters from Bath’s Fire Station, after a neighbour discovered a fire in their property in Twerton.
The neighbour, who heard a smoke alarm activating on Sunday morning, discovered the fire and dialled 999.
When crews arrived they had to force entry to the property as there were reports that someone may be inside.
Two firefighters in breathing apparatus searched the house and found a male and a female, who they assisted to safety.
They were treated by ambulance crews for the effects of breathing in smoke and were taken to hospital.
Crews used a high pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire which is thought to have started accidentally after cooking was left unattended.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service are taking the opportunity to remind people to take care when cooking and never leave it unattended. Always make sure appliances are turned off after use.
They also recommend fitting and testing smoke alarms on every level on your property, as in this case the neighbour heard the alarms activating.
Fire crews also tackled another house fire on Saturday, which was believed to have been caused by sunlight reflecting onto a mirror.
Firefighters were called to reports of a fire on the second floor of a four storey building in Upper Camden Place at around 11.30am.
When crews arrived they found the occupants of the property already outside and unharmed.
Two firefighters in breathing apparatus used a high pressure hose reel and a 45mm jet to extinguish the fire.
They ventilated the property using a positive pressure ventilation fan.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally.
