Firefighters from Bath’s Fire Station have rescued a man who is believed to have been stuck on a river bank on the River Avon near Walcot Street for several hours.

Crews were alerted by the police at around 4am on Wednesday morning after the man was found on the side of the river below Walcott Street.

As he was unable to get to safety, firefighters launched an inflatable rescue raft from Spring Gardens.

When crews reached the man he was helped onto the raft before they returned to the launch point.

He was then handed over to the care of paramedics who treated him for cuts and bruises to his head.
