Staff praised as Keynsham café is evacuated following small fire

A café in Keynsham was evacuated after a small fire broke out during a gig on Friday night.

KTCRfm Radio reported there had been a swift response to the incident during the Steve Mercy gig at Grounded, adding that the fire service had “arrived in very quick time, where, after professional action by Grounded staff, all customers had been safely evacuated”.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called at 9.22pm on Friday 16th January to reports of a smell of burning at a café on High Street, Keynsham.

“Firefighters from Hicks Gate and Kingswood attended; on arrival they found a small electrical fire that had self-extinguished prior to their arrival.

“Firefighters checked the building to ensure it was safe and helped ventilate the building. The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.”

The café remains open for business this week.
