Fire crews tackle blaze at back of Marks & Spencer store in centre of Bath

Firefighters from Bath’s Fire Station tackled a blaze at the rear of the Marks & Spencer store in the city centre yesterday afternoon, involving a number of plastic crates.

A large amount of black smoke was seen coming from the scene, with police helping to evacuate the area ahead of fire crews arriving to put out the blaze.

Avon Fire & Rescue said they were called to reports of a fire involving a number of wheelie bins at around 2.15pm.

They sent two fire engines to the scene, with firefighters using two high-pressure hose reels to quickly extinguish the fire.

It is not known how much damage has been caused by the fire, but signage for the collection point has been destroyed.

An investigation is now underway into the cause of the fire.
