The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020, released on Wednesday 4th March, by higher education analysts QS,  highlights how the world’s best universities perform on topics such as academic reputation, employer reputation and impact.

The University of Bath performs best in Sports-related subjects (11th), where both its academic reputation and employer reputation are highlighted.

In addition to sports, it also makes the top-50 for Social Policy and Administration (46th) and is in the top-100 in four other areas: Architecture and the Built Environment; Business and Management; Education; and Statistics and Operational Research (each ranked between 50-100 globally).

This year’s rankings mark a jump in position for education and statistical and operational research.

Domestically, the QS rankings place six subjects in the top-10 when comparing other UK universities.

These include: Architecture & the Built Environment (10); Chemical Engineering (10); Mathematics (10); Business & Management Studies (10); Social Policy & Administration (9); and Sports-related subjects (4).

For citations per paper, Business and Management Studies at Bath earned the highest score (94.9), which also received the highest score in QS’ H-Index (95.9), which is a measure of impact for published academic work.

President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian White, said: “These latest QS World University Rankings by Subject highlight many strengths for the University of Bath and are testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff and students.

“I was particularly pleased to see the University having retained high ranking for our excellent sports-related subjects, and I also warmly congratulate colleagues for the increased rankings in education and for statistical and operational research.”
