A Bath junior school is celebrating after its pupils’ ‘high level of commitment to learning’ and ‘accelerated progress’ were recognised and praised by an Ofsted Inspector.

St Saviour’s Junior School in Larkhall was awarded an impressive ‘Good’ rating following an Ofsted Inspection at the end of the Summer Term.

Pupils were commended for their ‘diligence and pride in their work’ and describing learning as ‘fun’, while the Inspection also noted parents were ‘particularly positive’ about the school: ‘As one parent said, reflecting the opinions of many, ‘This is a good, local community school run on strong values.’’

The Inspection commended the school and its staff for improving areas including handwriting where ‘progress has now accelerated’ with pupils rising to ‘teachers’ higher expectations’, and mathematics teaching which was particularly praised for stretching ‘the most able pupils’ with teaching adapted well to different levels.

The Inspection was the first since March 2013 and the first since new Head Joe Beament joined the school in September 2016. The Head was praised for ‘building a team of effective and committed leaders’ backed by ‘skilled and effective Governors’.

He said: ‘The Inspection rightly captured all the hard work and commitment that staff and Governors of our school offer the children each and every day. It confirms the impact the community, parents, friends and families have on ensuring children have the best possible start to their education.

“We are very proud of all the extremely positive comments about our pupils, their commitment to learning and their excellent attitude, as well as their evident happiness at school.’

St Saviour’s Junior School is in the process of applying to become an Academy and join the Bath and Wells Multi-Academy Trust where it is likely to be joined by other local primary schools as part of a flagship local hub.
